The Beauty of the Human Mind

Do you have anything in your head that you can't tell if it's real or imagined or dreamed or put there by some technology we haven't yet officially invented? Well, I have a memory from childhood that I have been searching for validation of for almost 30 years...

I saw Star Wars when I was 4 years old. I still remember sitting on my dad's knee in the theater. It blew my mind. I think the only other movie I had seen was Pete's Dragon. Needless to say, Star Wars was one of the most amazing things I had ever experienced. And, I grew up with the trilogy in my mind, imagination and even showing up in our playground activities. I still remember the braver students hanging upside down from the monkey bars and falling on their heads once they got their lightsabers to fly into their hands so they could cut themselves down. (i'll let you guess the reference).

Anyway, at some point there was another Star Wars movie which somehow appeared in my brain. I don't remember when, just that as I rewatched the the first Trilogy over the years, there were whole scenes which I remembered very clearly, yet were absent from the movies. So what gives? I remember movies very well. For almost 30 years, I have been asking people about the old Star Wars movie where we meet Chewie's family. People just look at me funny so after a while I stopped asking. But I kept looking; I know what I know.

Well it's been found! But it's not a pretty scene. I have just discovered the source of this extra footage: The Star Wars Christmas Special. Ouch! All of these years searching for this amazing other movie turns out to be one of the most horrific things ever to air on TV. Well, at least I didn't make it all up; although having seen this, I almost wish I had. Now, enjoy the first eight minutes of the two hour Star Wars Holiday Special if you dare. Just remember where you saw Chewie's family so you don't have to look for this for decades like I did...

Parachute+Air Vent+Sandbags =

Several years ago Uncle Jonathan gave the kids a huge parachute and a whole bunch of hand sowed sand bags. It is still one of the kids' favorite things! Here's the last child discovering the joys of the "blow fort."

Super Popular

300 friends on Facebook... I thought it would be more fun than this. You know like when you buy the store's 100 millionth diaper and all of a sudden the alarms go off and balloons drop from the ceiling and the news crews jump out to interview you about how you are feeling and what the heck you did with all those diapers...

Maybe I just prefer people in real life... sigh
